Great things come in wedges: cheese, pie, and this *super* affordable pregnancy pillow. It might be little, but this memory foam maternity pillow gives max support while taking up minimal space, meaning there will be plenty of room on the bed for you and your partner (and your pets, of course).
Glowing review: Oh. My. Goodness. This thing saved me. I didn’t like the idea of a giant full body pillow taking up so much space in the bed but at 19 weeks I’m definitely starting to need some belly support. This thing does the trick. It’s SO comfortable to put under my belly while I’m sleeping…I also use it on my back and in between my legs and it works great for all of those things.
Pros
Soft, cooling fabric
Adjustable to fit your needs
Cover is washable
Cons
Filling tends to move around
If you are familiar with playing reverse Uno all night with the cool side of your pillow, then this pregnancy pillow might just be your new BFF. Made with breathable micro-bead filling and a super soft fabric, this Freda maternity pillow actually prevents you from waking up in a puddle of your own sweat—the ultimate dream! Plus, the oblong length means you can adjust it to be just about any shape you're feelin'.
Glowing review: There’s support in all the right places and it’s breathable so you don’t wake up drenched in sweat. I’m taking it in hospital when I’m delivering because it’s so comfortable.

Useful for pregnancy and postpartum

C-shaped pregnancy pillows are an incredibly popular option (this one alone has 38,000+ five-star reviews on Amazon!). The contoured shape is especially comfortable for plus-size bodies. This C-shape pillow comes v highly rated by parents and pillow-enthusiasts alike. With a jersey cotton cover, aka the fabric your fave t-shirt is made from, what's not to love?
Glowing review: I'm a big woman, almost 6 ft tall and about a size 20/22 currently. 10/10 would buy this again. It was a lifesaver during pregnancy and it's been even more amazing postpartum...And honestly I don't think I'd be surviving my recovery from an emergency C-section without it. I cuddle with this thing more than I cuddle with my fiancé. You should definitely get it. It's my favorite thing. Other than my cute little boy. Close second, though.
Pros
Washable cover
Comes with travel bag
Cons
A bit pricey
Not many pregnancy pillows look like something you would find in the bedding section of West Elm. But you don’t have to choose between style and comfort just because you are pregnant. The bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow is cute enough to not hide in your closet and the fabric also has the comfort of your favorite, perfectly worn- in sweatpants.
Glowing review: I love how it looks, feels and works. I love that it's now part of my "pretty" bed pillows and you can't even tell it's a pregnancy pillow. I won't have to stuff it under my bed after I have my baby. I use it for everything, lounging to watching a movie. I also love how cool it stays. This pillow does not make me hot. I would definitely recommend because it's not bulky but works. I'm excited to try using it for breastfeeding too.

Compact
Under $40

Zipper might feel bulky
There is a good chance this is your favorite position, as in, sleeping position. Side sleeping comes with some new challenges once your bump starts to grow, thanks to added weight to your back and hips. If you're a side sleeper in need of some sweet relief, then this pregnancy pillow by Boppy was literally made for you.
Glowing review: I've always been a side sleeper with back problems. Now that I'm pregnant I keep waking up throughout the night as I would roll onto my back. Since I got this pillow, even if I do roll onto my back it keeps me mostly tilted to the side and reduces the discomfort, making it possible to sleep more peacefully. I love that it's not bulky and I get just enough support without it putting too much pressure on my back.
Pros
Supports your whole body
Memory foam core
Cons
Might have a plasticky smell at first
Heavier than some smaller pillows
There is a pregnancy pillow for just about every letter of the alphabet. And tbh, knowing which one is for you can be super overwhelming (more on that in the FAQ section below!). But the relief from this U-shaped maternity pillow might be just what you need. It has both full body support and a memory foam interior, so essentially it's wrapping you up in a cocoon of comfort.
Glowing review: I was struggling to get a good nights sleep in my second trimester. The tossing and turning would make me be wide awake at 1am every day and I hated it. I used to sleep with a basic king sized cotton pillow to hug and put between my legs, but it was a hassle to flip to each side. I specifically looked for a large U-shaped pillow that was filled with memory foam and this one is perfect! I have had a solid 8 hours of sleep every single night since I have gotten this pillow, it is perfect for turning side to side.

Affordable
Memory foam interior
Easy to wash cover
Cons
Fabric may have a strong smell before washing
Your tummy and back aren’t the only places that may need support while pregnant. If you are waking up in the morning feeling like you’ve rode for miles on your Peloton that now doubles as a coat rack (we love a pandemic purchase), then you might just be in the market for a knee pillow. Although it's useful for all bodies, many expecting parents have attributed sleeping like a baby while growing a baby to this pillow.
Glowing review: This has helped immensely with hip pain I acquired during my pregnancies. I can use it for one leg or between my legs. Either way, it helps relieve pain I used to get at night.

This pillow will be with you for a good time and a long time, from the very beginning of your pregnancy journey all the way through postpartum. This pillow is like the 3-in-1 shampoo of pregnancy pillows: providing added comfort for your ever-changing pregnancy bod, supporting baby during feeding time (and giving your arms a much-needed break)
Glowing review: I bought this pillow before my little one was born. I held myself back with my first but decided I wouldn't with this pregnancy. It was a life saver for my back and tummy when I couldn't get comfortable. Nursing with this pillow is just amazing. It frees both of my hands when I'm nursing and comfy for her when she dozes off. After my C-section I had severe swelling, this pillow was perfect to elevate my legs…Would definitely suggest this pillow.
Pros
Multi-use
Good back support
Cons
Needs to be fluffed up from time to time
May have a strong smell before washing
Sleeping isn’t the only time you might be calling on your trusty pregnancy pillow. Relaxing on the couch while tearing up at a Hallmark movie (thanks, hormones!), working from home on your laptop, or lounging while reading one of the many parenting books that people tell you are necessary are all ideal times to put that pillow to use. This maternity pillow has you and your bump covered for day and night support.
Glowing review: I started using this on the couch for watching TV but staying off my back, and I absolutely love it. It provides the perfect shape and support for lounging on your side comfortably. While I know its suggested for sleeping use, I highly recommend for couch or lounging use.

Super soft fabric
Multiple shape options

Velcro closure might scratch your skin
The “H” in this H-shape pregnancy pillow should stand for “How the hell did I live without this,” because it is just *that* comfy. Although it might not be as popular as the U or C-shape, its unique design could be what gets you through the next nine months. With a convenient adjustable mid-piece, you can change up the pillow’s configuration based on where you need a little extra support. It is literally like a big, cozy hug for your cute preggo self.
Glowing review: I'm currently 10 weeks into my second pregnancy and haven't been able to get comfortable for weeks. This pillow is comfortable, soft and provides support from all angles. I like how I can adjust the middle pillow to fit whichever position my stubborn pregnant body demands.

You will be sleeping like absolute royalty with this Queen Rose maternity pillow. Draped in a super soft velvet cover (how fahncy), this supportive U-shape pillow is made to pamper you by propping you up in a variety of different positions. Bc you know what? You're bringing life into this world and deserve to be treated like a damn queen. All you are missing now is a multi-million dollar palace and a slew of Corgis to follow you around.
Glowing review: I've had this brand of pillow for a few years now, ever since I was pregnant with my second child. It worked absolutely perfectly while I was pregnant, and even better when I was recovering from a C-section! It gives a good amount of support, without being too bulky. The new pillow that I just ordered has the velvet case on it. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I absolutely love it.
Do I really need a pregnancy pillow?
There is a good chance your great grandma made it through her pregnancy without a pillow designated for her bump, but there is also a good chance she delivered without an epidural. So, although maternity pillows might not be necessary, they can definitely ease your pregnancy discomfort, allowing you to get better sleep and in turn give you more energy during the day, explains Dr. Shepherd. She recommends making the purchase if you notice your sleep being negatively impacted or you start to feel achier than usual.

When should I start using a pregnancy pillow?
You will likely know when you need to start using a pregnancy pillow (IYKYK). Listen to your body, and when you feel like you could use some extra support or have noticed a change in your sleep, then it’s probably time to add to cart, Dr. Shepherd says. There is generally no such thing as using a maternity pillow too early or too late during pregnancy she adds. Hell, you don’t even have to be pregnant to enjoy the coziness of a maternity pillow!
How to choose the best pregnancy pillow shape
All bodies and needs are different, so there isn’t necessarily a one-size-fits-all approach to pregnancy pillows. Dr. Shepherd does note that your body type might be better suited for a certain style of pillow, so be sure to keep that in mind while shopping.
“For those who may be plus-size, C-shape is more ideal, as it allows for a comfier fit, whereas a U-shape may be better suited if you’re more petite to provide extra support for smaller frames with the ability to wrap around your entire body,” Dr. Shepherd says. And if you're expecting twins (good luck!), Dr. Shepherd recommends opting for a large U-shape pillow to get the best support.
